Chamberlain Announces Recipients of ’09 Scholarships Awards

Each year, The Chamberlain Group is proud to honor students who excel both inside the classroom and their community with the Duchossois/Chamberlain College Scholarship Awards. This year's scholarship award recipients are Lela Epstein, Thomas Cleary, Peter Lawinger, Samantha Shepley and Krista Shutvet.

The Duchossois/Chamberlain College Scholarship Awards recognize outstanding academic achievement by the children of employees at The Duchossois Group and its subsidiaries including The Chamberlain Group Inc., AMX LLC, Brivo Systems, Duchossois Technology Partners and Durasol Systems. This year, three renewable $4,000 scholarships and two one-time, $1,000 scholarships were awarded.

Lela Epstein, daughter of Mark Epstein, employee at AMX LLC in Willow Grove, Pa., received a renewable $4,000 scholarship award to study art therapy at the Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa. A graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., Lela balanced a variety of activities both in and outside of school. A member of the National Honors Society and PW Girls Lacrosse team, Lela also participated in events including the MS150 bike ride, Relay for Life and Race for a Cure. In addition, Lela was also awarded the Violet Richardson Award for Volunteerism and the Whitemarsh Business Association Scholarship.

Peter Lawinger, son of Mark Lawinger, employee at The Chamberlain Group in Elmhurst, Ill., received a renewable $4,000 scholarship award to study nursing at Hope College in Holland, Mich., Peter graduated from Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, Ill., where he was a member of the National Honors Society, men’s choir as well as the symphonic band. When not in school, Peter participated in the Eagle Scouts and was a Young Life Junior Leader.

Krista Shutvet, daughter of David Shutvet, employee at The Chamberlain Group in Elmhurst, Ill., received a renewable $4,000 scholarship award to study physical therapy at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., A graduate of Palatine High School in Palatine, Ill., Krista was a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Future Educators of America, student council, Best Buddies program and St. Thomas Youth Group. Krista has also been recognized as a 2009 Illinois State Scholar and while in school achieved high honor roll and perfect attendance.

Samantha Shepley, daughter of Susan Shepley, employee at The Chamberlain Group in Elmhurst, Ill., received a one-time $1,000 scholarship award to study Pre-Law and Spanish at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Samantha graduated from York Community High School in Elmhurst, Ill., where she was a member of the National Honor Society as well as an Illinois State Scholar. Samantha was also All Conference in (West Suburban) Bowling.

Thomas Cleary, son of Rick Wise, employee at AMX LLC in Cheney, Wash., received a one-time $1,000 scholarship award to study chemistry at the University of San Francisco. As a graduate of Cheney High School in Cheney, Wash., Thomas was a member of the National Honor Society and was the 1st Team All League Linebacker. Thomas also came in 1st place in the Spokesman Review Outdoor Writing contest and was a Scholar-Athlete for four years.
