The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently recognized Amarr Garage Doors for superior safety programs at the company’s manufacturing facility in Lawrence, Kan. In addition, Amarr received a two-year exemption for the recognition, which is extremely rare for a first-time recipient.
The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) recognizes companies that operate an exemplary safety and health management system. Amarr had not been eligible for the award previously because it had been for companies with less than 250 employees. OSHA opened the program to all companies in 2007.
“We are honored by this recognition. Amarr has always been dedicated to workplace safety and this award exemplifies that,” says Craig Crane, Amarr’s safety director. “This recognition goes to the employees as much as it does anybody because they are always focused on safety and that can be seen everyday in the plant.”
To be eligible for the SHARP award, Amarr had to go through an extensive site visit. Crane said the facility was visited by a consultation team from the OSHA office and the process included interviewing and quizzing team members about Amarr’s safety standards. During an inspection of the facility, Amarr was rated 50 different safety items and received a total score of 198 out of 200.
