Chase Industries (DBA Chase Doors) announced the acquisition of Staples & Stevens, a subsidiary of the Burch Corp.. Located in Tampa, Fla. Staples & Stevens manufactures a complete range of swinging, sliding, sectional and vertical-lift cooler and freezer doors. The addition of Staples & Stevens cold storage doors to Chases’ existing line of insulated traffic doors and fire-rated service doors will allow the company to provide a complete package of complimentary products to cold-storage contractors, distributors, dealers, box manufacturers and end users in both the industrial and retail markets.
Staples & Stevens manufactures its line of cold storage doors under the brand name ColdGuard™. Founded in 1934 as a distributor of refrigeration equipment, Staples and Stevens began building cold storage doors in 1977. They were purchased in 1999 by the Burch Corp., a licensed general contractor headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., that specializes in the design and construction of commercial refrigeration facilities. The Staples & Stevens product offering includes the following door products and a complete line of replacement parts:
• Swing Doors (Single and Double)
• Track Slide Door
• Space Saver Slide Door
• Single Slide Door (Electric and Manual)
• Bi-Parting Slide Door (Electric and Manual)
• Sectional Overhead Door (Electric and Manual)
• Vertical Lift Door (Electric and Manual)
Traditional cold storage doors are manufactured with wood frames and casings. Wood warps, swells and rots when subjected to moisture and large temperature differentials. Pressure treated wood can solve the rotting problem but tends to warp even more than untreated wood. Organic materials such as wood can also harbor bacteria, mold and fungus.
To address these concerns, Staples & Stevens engineered the ColdGuard™ product line with fiberglass-reinforced pultrusions (FRP), and extruded polymer casings eliminating all wood. This innovative design produces a strong, high-impact door panel which also weighs considerably less than wood-based products with the added benefit of making them easier to open and close. ColdGuard™ doors are sold with a 10-year warranty on maintaining insulation value and against warping.
Freezer and cooler-box door panels are used in both retail and industrial applications. Retail users include supermarkets, wholesale clubs, convenience stores, hotels, restaurants and institutional foodservice kitchens at schools, hospitals, airports and military bases. Industrial users include food processing plants, refrigerated distribution centers and warehouse facilities. The market for cold storage doors includes new construction, renovations to existing facilities and as maintenance replacements.
Chase Doors is a manufacturer of durable, reliable impact traffic and specialty doors for industrial, retail, commercial and institutional customers.
