C.H.I. Takes Several Steps in a Green Direction

12/09/2008

C.H.I. Overhead Doors already makes some of the most energy-efficient insulated doors on the market, but the company has recently taken several steps to become more environmentally conscious. By making a few adjustments, C.H.I. has vastly increased its energy efficiency and waste reduction programs, while continuing to search for ways to become a more green company.

The C.H.I. Overhead Doors 13-acre manufacturing facility in Arthur, Ill., utilizes many power-saving systems, such as a state-of-the-art heating structure and all-new low power consumption lighting fixtures. In an effort to reduce landfill waste, C.H.I. separates recyclable materials such as cardboard packing from suppliers and steel that is not useable in the manufacturing process.

C.H.I. also operates an energy efficient fleet of trucks, with an on-site maintenance facility to ensure that each truck is in top shape and operating with the utmost fuel efficiency. To further reduce emissions, numerous components used in the production of doors are purchased locally, and of those that are shipped in from a greater distance, C.H.I. trucks pick up many shipments on the return trip from product deliveries.
