Able Door Manufacturing closes after 27 years

Houston, Texas-based Able Door Manufacturing announces they will close all three of their manufacturing centers after 27 years in business this month. The following is an excerpt from a letter posted on their Web site Feb.1:

Dear Valued Able Customer,

As you are aware, we have witnessed a substantial drop in the new housing and construction market during the past 14 months. In addition, we saw several steel price increases throughout that period and the current steel market is forcing prices to rise even higher. Regrettably, these factors have made it very difficult for us to compete in the sectional door market.

With these thoughts in mind, and realizing that the current instability may continue in the coming year, we have made the tough decision to cease operations at Able Door Manufacturing. We will close our three distribution centers, as well as cease the manufacturing of all products, on Friday, February 29, 2008.

We will be providing outstanding pricing on our remaining inventory during the next month. Please contact your local distribution center, or Able Sales professional, for specific information.
