In 2010, the annual IDA EXPO could be found in glittering Las Vegas, where garage door and access-control industry folks could be found learning, networking and having a little bit of fun, too. From seminars on fire doors and UL 325 updates to inspiring motivational speakers and marketing tips, dealers had a full calendar – that’s not including the trade show!

So, whether you had to miss this year’s event, or couldn’t catch it all, PDD has an overview of some of the top manufacturers and distributors, and their latest news and products. And this year, it was all about innovation. From new products to improvements on tools, doors, accessories, openers and more, the floor was filled with never-before-seen technology and manufacturing methods – all in an effort to offer door dealers and their customers the best in convenience, safety, variety and more.

Advanced Plastic Corp.

At the Advanced booth, where they were the winners of Best Vinyl Door Products in PDD’s Best of Business poll, Mark Fisher showed us their assortment of door stops and top caps, door buttons and threshold, and their innovative Rolled Door Stop. The solid but roll-able product is shipping-friendly because it can be ordered in 150-foot rolls and cut to size per project while on site. The measuring scale is embossed on the back of the seal, and it comes in 2-inch and 2-and-5/8-inch widths. The company now also offers expansion and complementary sizes for custom-quality extruded line weather seal, Fisher added.

A-Tech

Over at the A-Tech booth, Renee Viscomi showed us how they are now “supplying everything dealers need for their dealership.” That includes angle iron, track and hardware, vinyl weather seal and LiftMaster residential and commercial openers.

She also informed that the Premium Vinyl Everdoor is newly windloaded, and they have a new Gutter Protection Mesh Screen. They also offer 24-hour online ordering and customer service.

Linear Corp.

At the Linear booth, Gary Baker and Mark Mattson introduced us to the LDCO 800, the DC-powered garage door opener, which has a superior, eco-friendly design, soft-start and –stop, and boasts half the stand-by of other openers. They are currently testing this operator, and it’s expected to be available this summer.

C.H.I. Overhead Doors

Tim Miller and Brant Herring were happy to give us a tour of what’s new at the C.H.I. booth. First, the Carriage House 5200 is an existing door that now comes in a new color, Desert Tan. The 5733 model has a new design and all-cedar exterior, the 5950 Series comes in a new long panel stamp, and there will be a new addition this summer in a carriage house style.

Next, the pair showed off a concept door they had on display for dealers to check out and give them feedback on. “We really wanted to get dealers to think beyond just one look, and consider this as a whole concept,” said Miller. To gauge interest in the door, they showed off all the possibilities in a coating applied directly to the door that could be done in patterns and life-like images, including a leafy camouflage, stacked stone and wood panels.
