Do You Avoid Innovation Like the Plague? What it Could Be Costing Your Dealership

Innovation can be a wonderful thing – just ask Apple. But many businesses are afraid of the risk involved. Here are three ways to avoid missing an opportunity to innovate, from the OPEN Small Business Forum:

1. Stop being negative. Usually there is at least one person in the company who bristles at the idea of trying something new. Typically their response to any new ideas is, “We tried that already and it didn’t work out.” But even if that’s true, “now” is a different market, a different atmosphere and there are different people at the company. Don’t be afraid to look at why it didn’t work before and make the necessary changes to make this new project more successful.

2. Don’t be easily defeated. Take a lesson from Thomas Edison, who suffered thousands of “failures” before landing on many of his inventions. But he never gave up, and never considered himself a failure. Believe in and be committed to your innovation.

3. Don’t let your company be burdened with intricacies. Spend your resources looking ahead to the future and working on your innovation goals.
